Corn Exchange Wallingford & Sinodun Players
The Corn Exchange, Wallingford is currently raising funds for a new roof - the existing roof has been there for 160 years and is beginning to leak badly when it rains. The overall cost is £500,000 and we have to raise £350,000 (from grants, loans, sponsorship and fundraising events). The work is taking place in the summer and the theatre/cinema will be closed from June till the autumn.
Outside Edge, 29th March to 1st April, 19:45
By Richard Harris. One of the classic comedies of the late 20th century. The action all takes place on one day – the Saturday of a critical cricket match for the local team. But while the team captain is trying to keep his men focused on the game, there’s slow-burning meltdown among their wives and girlfriends in the kitchen. This highly amusing play, first staged by Sinodun Players in 1987, is more to do with marital disharmony and tension in the pavilion where tea is being prepared than scoring runs on the pitch. Much bickering, back-biting and witty one-liners eventually lead to stand-offs and bedlam, prompting the question: which is more important, the tea or the match? The play involves genuine characters acutely observed in a typical middle-England situation in which things unravel with hilarious results.
